Well gals, Autumn is almost here and I've pulled out the Frank Sinatra cd's! Okay, I've actually just made a new playlist on my Ipod (can you believe I almost said "records", lol)! All that *jazz* aside, I'm in an oh-so-cool, breezy kind of mood lately! Is it all due to the fabulous new Fall scents that we've been testing out for the past couple of weeks? I'm quite sure that these warm and cozy new scents have inspired delightful thoughts of Hot Cocoa, snuggling-by-the-fire and relaxing in an extra-bubbly, bubble bath! Fall sure is fabulous but all that crisp air sure can take it's toll on a cool-weather-cutie's skin. Don't fret gal pals...we're working on some luscious new treats for even the driest LSB Girls! Those of you long time LSB girls may remember our illustrious Marshmallow Hand Creme from way back in the day. Yup, back at the end of 1999 (the turn of the century as it were) we created our first product. A luxurious and nurturing hand creme made completely from scratch! We experimented with the most luxurious oils and butters until we finally came up with that fabulous product that we all know and love. This is the same little sweetie that just happens to smell like deliciously fluffy marshmallows, or as my 20 month old niece likes to call them Mamows! Fitting, as she is the model for our brand new Marshmallow Hand Creme stickers! I can't think of anything that I love more than luscious marshmallows and my adorable baby niece. Pink 'n' Black

LSB's newest scent-sation is Pink 'n' Black! Fresh baked chocolate cupcakes blended with pink sugar cookies and topped with vanilla frosting! A unique and super-sexy combination! Now this yummy scent is definitely a staff favorite and the LSB lovelies seem to be loving it as well! However this delightfully, decadent scent seems to be getting more attention than we at LSB could have even imagined. Recently we got an email from a fabulous customer letting us know that every single day last week she got at least 1 compliment on her charming aroma!

Monday~My boyfriend just about flipped when he smelled me! He doesn't like anything but this he says this is his favorite and that I should wear it at our wedding!!

Sunday~Well it looked like my streak was about to be broken as I didn't go anywhere on Sunday but we did get pizza delivered. Low and behold the pizza guy comes to the door and says "Have you been baking"? So it was a pretty cool week for me. I love the attention :)

I love bags! I'm not an LV or Kate Spade girl though. I'm addicted to cute, unique, handmade bags. In fact I recently got an adorable but very small "envelope" type bag from a sweet designer named Kittybee. It's very thin though so I can only fit my ipod, wallet and cell phone comfortably. Where am I going with this you ask? Well I can't even fit my super-cute change purse in this bag, so I've been using a tiny ziplock to hold my coinage (a little embarrassing I know but it works). You would not believe how many compliments I keep getting on this thing!! "Oooh, what a cute coin purse" and "Where can I get one of those"? Uh, probably Safeway :) It's so funny; when I go out wearing some lovely new Zero 4 Marcy sweater nobody says a word but I carry my change in a baggy and all of a sudden I'm a fashion maven!

These "almost edible" recipes were sent in by a great LSB gal pal named Kathryn! If anyone gives them a try please post your results. Here's to sweet, shiny hair and a gorgeous complexion! Thanks Kathryn!

Did you know that.....Not only do bananas contain an impressive amount potassium but they are jammed packed with vitamins and minerals.

Here are two of my favourite homemade banana-beautifying recipes!
DAMAGED HAIR
1 ripe Banana
4-5 drops of Almond oil (more if you want the scent stronger)
1 Tablespoon of Jojoba oil

Massage into your hair and then allow to sit for about 20 minutes or longer if you have the time. Rinse with warm water and then shampoo and condition.

FACE
1 Egg Yolk
1 - 2 teaspoons of Almond oil
1 ripe banana

Combine in a bowl using a fork. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes then remove with lukewarm water.

* If you want the mask to be exfoliating add a bit of oatmeal.
* If you find this mask too oily just use the banana and the egg yolk.

Honey, your hair looks marvelous!

I know what you're thinking..."honey, in my hair? No way!". I'm always telling my gal pals..."Do the honey trick. Your hair will thank you". They think I'm nuts! But you must believe me using honey on your hair as a rinse is one of the best tricks that I've ever found. It's especially great for dry/curly hair as it really helps to cut down on the frizzies. So here's the idea...put 2 tablespoons of honey in a large cup and fill the cup up with warm water (I like to give it a quick stir to make sure that the honey isn't all sitting at the bottom of the cup). Then after washing and rinsing your hair like normal (but before conditioning), slowly pour the honey mixture over your hair. Let it sit for a couple of minutes and then condition as usual. My hair always feels so silky and smooth now and it's a fab way to enhance your favorite conditioner. Have a sweet weekend gal pals!

Wow, I can't believe how cold it is here in the middle of August! Okay, it's not actually snowing (that's me in Banff last Christmas) but it feels like it could at any moment. However, that being said, I've been enjoying the most wonderful long baths and I've even pulled out the new fall scents (the ones that I shoved to the back of the cabinet last month). Great Pumpkins, Candied Caramel Apples, Spicy Cinnamon Buns and Fresh Sugar Cookies are just some of the cozy scents that we will be blending to make up this years "cool-weather must haves"! Oh and over the weekend I delighted in my fist starbucks "Caramel Apple Cider"! Mmm, the Barista's may have thought I was nuts but you know what they say...when in Rome (or was that the North Pole)?

Nanaimo Bar

Hi everyone!
In celebration of Canada Day (and a relaxing long weekend) I'm posting the ultimate Nanaimo Bar recipe...Yum!!

**Bottom Layer
1⁄2 cup unsalted butter (European style cultured) 1⁄2 cup sugar
1 cup coconut
1 egg, beaten
1 3⁄4 cup graham wafer crumbs
1⁄2 cup finely chopped almonds 5 tablespoons cocoa

Melt first 3 ingredients in the top of a double boiler. Add egg and stir to cook and thicken. Remove from heat. Stir in crumbs, coconut and nuts. Press firmly into an ungreased 8 X 8 pan.

**Second Layer
1⁄2 cup unsalted butter
2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons Cream
2 tablespoons vanilla custard powder
2 cups icing sugar

Cream butter, cream, custard powder and icing sugar together well. Beat until light. Spread over bottom layer.

**Third Layer
4 squares semi-sweet chocolate (1 ounce each)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Melt chocolate and butter over low heat. Cool. When cool, but still liquid, pour over the second layer and chill in refrigerator.

Hey gals!
Want to start the week off right with smooth, shiny hair? You must try an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse! I've been doing this for about 6 months now. This along with my LSB Au Lait Shampoo and Monoi & Honey conditioner (which is brand new from LSB by the way) has really made a difference in the look and feel of my usually dry/dull hair. Here's the scoop:

~Mix 1 teaspoon Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with 8-10 oz of warm water. Shampoo Hair as usual, then pour the mixture over the entire length of the hair (starting with the roots of course). Rinse really well and then apply your favorite conditioner. The ACV doesn't smell great but LSB conditioners do so your hair will still smell delish when the whole cycle is complete. I like to do this once a week as it really helps to clarify and add shine to my hair.

I hope this little tip helps girls! Here's to Lustrous, summer locks!!!

As summer approaches we here at LSB are always looking for new ways to cool down and chill out! Our gal pal Amber submitted this yummy recipe for sweet Summer Terrine and we couldn't wait to give it a try. I'm very happy to report that this creamy treat is as tasty as it is refreshing. Just perfect for those warm, lazy afternoons (you know, the ones where you slather yourself in LSB Strawberry Lemonade Body Whip and unwind by the pool)!

Terrine
1 pint raspberry sorbet
1 pint lemon sorbet
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1 pint mango sorbet
1 pint boysenberry sorbet

Compote
1/2 cup seedless blackberry jam
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
2 1/2-pint containers fresh blackberries

1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh mint leaves

For terrine:
Line 9x5x2 3/4-inch metal loaf pan with 2 layers of plastic wrap, extending 3 inches over sides. Scoop raspberry sorbet into medium bowl and stir to soften; let stand at room temperature until sorbet is spreadable, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Spread sorbet evenly in bottom of prepared loaf pan. Place loaf pan in freezer. Scoop lemon sorbet into another medium bowl; stir and let stand at room temperature until spreadable, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Spoon lemon sorbet in large dollops atop raspberry sorbet, then spread in even layer. Return loaf pan to freezer. Repeat procedure with vanilla ice cream, then mango sorbet, and finally boysenberry sorbet. Fold plastic wrap overhang over terrine; cover with aluminum foil. Freeze terrine overnight. (Terrine can be made 4 days ahead. Keep frozen.)

For compote:
Stir blackberry jam in heavy medium saucepan over medium-low heat until melted. Stir in grated lemon peel and fresh lemon juice. Cool to room temperature. Stir in fresh blackberries, crushing some with fork to release juices. Refrigerate compote until cold, at least 2 hours and up to 1 day.

Stir sliced fresh mint into blackberry compote. Invert terrine onto platter; peel off plastic wrap. Cut terrine into slices. Serve with blackberry compote.

Makes 10 servings

Dick Dale aka the "king of the surf guitar" invented surf music on this date in 1958! His first tune "let's Go Trippin'" was released before anything by the Beach Boys or Jan & Dean and was the inspiration for the sixties surf music craze. Dale was never as commercially sucessful as his Hawthorne, California counterparts, but his love of surf, musical innovation, and his ability to capture the surging sounds of the ocean through his guitar make him a living legend! He still plays regularly so if he's ever in your neck of the woods make sure that you check it out. For those of us that can't get there, a cool cocktail and some Dick Dale on the hi-fi will have to do! Have a warm and wonderful week tiki-wahine's!

Kava, touted as a miracle cure-all, is a root used by Polynesian Islanders. This tropical herb is said to help improve your mood, your memory and even it even helps you to become more tranquil. Now who couldn't use some of that? Kava is widely available in teas and powders. Hey, I think that you might even be able to throw a little in the punch bowl at your next Soiree! Light the torches and grab the tiny paper umbrellas...the weekend is finally here! In celebration of this fabulous Friday, here's a delicious recipe for an adorable cocktail called the "Pink Wink"!

6 oz gin
2 oz dry vermouth
2 triple sec
2 oz coconut rum
1 tsp grenadine

Shake it all up on ice, strain into martini glasses, garnish with a cherry or maybe a cute flamingo umbrella!

I hope that this conjures up thoughts of island breezes and rolling waves. Have a tiki-licious weekend gal pals!

Hey Tiki gals!
As promised we have some..ahem...simple instructions on how to make a hula skirt! First, you need to find a place with long grass (like 15 inches). Look for unmowed fields, or roadsides. Usually, there's someplace to get high grass. Cut a whole bunch of it out, close to the ground. Next, get some heavy-duty, clear tape (like packing tape). Cut a big piece, big enough to go around your waist, and lay it flat (sticky side up!). Place the ends of the grass onto the tape. Get the idea? You can make your skirt even fancier by adding little flowers that will show through the clear tape. And if you stick a long ribbon or rope in there too, you'll have a waistband you can tie! Once all the grass and other goodies are in place on the tape, cut another piece of tape the same size and put it on top, so the sticky sides are together. That's it! Now all you have to do is learn how to hula (wink)! Have a wonderful week Exoticats!

Aloha, Tiki lovers!
This gorgeous "Shag" painting of a Hula Girl has inspired me to find out a bit more about the beautiful and ancient ritual of the "Hula"! This dance is a story told with the hands as well as the body. It symbolizes life, love and the ever-changing nature of the seasons! Ah but how does one do the Hula? Swaying hips, arms, fingers but most importantly the eyes and face are the key movers in Hula. It is practiced barefoot, and the simple left to right feet movement are of secondary importance. No plastic hoops or thrusting hips are involved in the authentic hula! So if you're feeling really adventurous grab your grass skirt, swipe on a dab of your "Surf Goddess" scent stick and give it a try! Don't have a grass skirt? Check back next week when I'll post simple (uh...we hope) "how to make a grass skirt" instructions. Until then relax in your gracious oasis and enjoy the sweet, Spring sunshine!

Chic, girls about town everywhere love these mini-handbags for their versatility...and lets face it, these are downright adorable! I just happen to have 4 of these and I even bought one for my sister (hey, a girl's got to accessorize)! Here's a tip for all of you LSB gals: if your cell phone isn't too big, a Marshmallow Plump Balm or Pineapple Princess Lip Butter fits in there just perfectly (wink). Happy Birthday to Bettie Mae Page who was born on this day in April of 1923! More photographed than even Marilyn Monroe, Bettie was and will always be the "Pin-Up-Queen". While Bettie has spent most of her later years in seclusion recent pictures show her with the same signature bangs that made her so famous in the fifties...too cool! We will be launching our highly aniticipated "Tiki" line next week and in anticipation I wanted to post the Blue Hawaiian Cocktail recipe that inspired our "almost famous" new beauty wash! Have a fun and fabulous weekend gals!

Ingredients:
1 oz light rum
1 cherry
2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1 oz cream of coconut
1 slice pineapple

Directions:
Blend light rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice, and cream of coconut with one cup ice in an electric blender at high speed. Pour contents into a highball glass. Decorate with the slice of pineapple and a cherry.

Local Edmonton/Calgary/Banff girls; I just wanted to let you know that Little Shop of Beauty products will be featured in the Eyecandy Fashion show at "Aurora" in Banff, Alberta on May 7th (starting at 9:00pm)!
